Rapido Ride: Driving Community and Cricket forward in Newfoundland

Rapid Ride Comapny

In the vibrant communities of Newfoundland, a new name has emerged, quickly becoming synonymous with reliability, inclusivity, and community spirit—Rapido Ride. Locally owned and operated by Ravneet Kaur and Jaspal Sidhu, this ride-sharing company is much more than just a transportation service. It represents the Canadian dream in motion and stands as a beacon of how entrepreneurship can give back to the community in meaningful ways, especially through the unifying sport of cricket.

Rapido Ride’s story is one of resilience and ambition. As Ravneet Kaur shares, “My husband and I started this ride-sharing company in Newfoundland because we saw how tough it could be for people to get around. We wanted to make transportation easier, more affordable, and reliable for everyone. As we keep growing, we hope to become the go-to option for getting around in Newfoundland, reaching more communities and really making a difference.” This commitment to improving lives through accessible transportation is just one part of their vision. Their passion extends beyond the roads and into the heart of Newfoundland’s diverse communities.

Rapido Ride has taken a unique approach to community engagement by becoming an active supporter of local sports and cultural events, with a special focus on cricket. In a province where cricket is steadily growing, Rapido Ride has stepped up to sponsor various cricket events, aspiring to support the provincial cricket team and local clubs. This not only helps to nurture the sport but also builds a stronger, more inclusive community.

The company’s significant contribution to cricket was highlighted in their title sponsorship of the Tape Ball Summer League 2024. Organized by Cricket NL, this was the first-ever tape ball tournament in the province, and Rapido Ride played a pivotal role in making it a reality. This initiative not only provided a platform for local cricket talent to shine but also showcased the company’s dedication to fostering community spirit through sports.

Reflecting on the journey of establishing Rapido Ride, Ravneet Kaur recalls, “My husband and I have been working to bring ride-sharing to Newfoundland since 2019, but it wasn’t easy. No government office seemed to know how to handle it because it was such a new concept—they weren’t sure who would be responsible or what guidelines were needed. So, when Newfoundland finally approved ride-sharing, we were absolutely thrilled.” This tenacity and determination are mirrored in their efforts to support local sports and cultural events, particularly cricket, which is gaining popularity across the province.

Beyond cricket and ice hockey, Rapido Ride is always on the frontlines supporting cultural events that resonate with Newfoundland’s diverse population. The company’s commitment to inclusivity extends to offering special promos during events that are special to different communities, celebrating all races, religions, and creeds. This initiative aims to bring together different communities under the Rapido Ride umbrella, promoting a sense of unity and shared purpose.

As Rapido Ride continues to grow, so does its impact on the community. With dreams of expanding their support for sports, cultural events, and community initiatives, Ravneet Kaur and Jaspal Singh Sidhu are not just building a successful business; they are weaving the fabric of a more connected and inclusive Newfoundland. Their story is a testament to the power of perseverance, community focus, and the positive ripple effects of giving back—both on and off the field.
