Furqan Mehdi Becomes First NL Player to Join Champions Cricket Open 100K

St. John’s, NL – In a groundbreaking moment for Newfoundland and Labrador cricket, Raja Furqan Mehdi, a 22-year-old ace bowler from the NL Eagles and a key member of the Cricket NL Provincial Squad 2024, has been selected to represent the Saskatchewan Strykers at the prestigious Champions Cricket Open 100K tournament, organized under the umbrella of Alberta Cricket Association. The tournament, scheduled from August 29 to September 1, will see Furqan competing against top-tier cricketers, making him the first player from Newfoundland & Labrador to achieve such an honor.
Raja Furqan’s journey to this milestone has been marked by consistent and outstanding performances on the field. In T20 cricket, Furqan has played 42 matches, taking an impressive 63 wickets at a remarkable economy rate of 6.78. His best bowling figures, 6/24, highlight his ability to deliver match-winning performances. Furqan’s excellence hasn’t gone unnoticed, earning him eight Player of the Match awards, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star in Canadian cricket.
