Niagara Falls, ON – In a spectacular debut season, Imperial Cricket Club (ICC) from Niagara Falls captured the HDCL Premier Division Championship in a dominant display against Niagara Cricket Academy (NCA). The final, held at the Hamilton and District Cricket League, showcased the prowess of a determined Imperial side, who secured a 6-wicket victory to claim the title.
Batting first, NCA struggled to find momentum against the relentless bowling attack of Imperial. Apart from Sahil Kumar Deshwal, who played a gritty knock of 55 off 78 balls, no other NCA batter managed to cross even 15 runs. The star of the bowling unit was Manpreet Singh Ghag, the Imperial captain, who delivered a masterclass in leadership and skill. Ghag bowled 8 overs, conceding just 21 runs and taking 3 crucial wickets. However, it was Jass who truly decimated the NCA lineup, taking 5 wickets for 32 runs in 6.5 overs, earning him the Player of the Match award.
Chasing a modest target, Imperial’s response was calculated and composed. Balkar Singh Ghag anchored the innings with a steady 62 off 97 balls, supported by Tayyar Haider’s patient 31 off 55 balls. Both batsmen remained unbeaten, guiding their team to victory in 34.2 overs.
This victory marked a fairytale conclusion to Imperial’s first season in the Hamilton and District Cricket League. Their triumph was not only a testament to the team’s talent but also to their exceptional consistency throughout the tournament. Captain Manpreet Singh Ghag emerged as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament, with an impressive tally of 32 wickets in 13 innings, boasting a remarkable average of 10.16 and an economy rate of just 3.6. Ghag’s best performance in an innings was taking 4 wickets, further cementing his status as a formidable bowler.
Sahil Kumar Deshwal of NCA, despite his team’s loss in the final, had an outstanding tournament. He finished as the highest run-scorer with 312 runs in 10 innings, including a high score of 107, maintaining an average of 39 and a strike rate of 83.87.
The best fielder of the tournament was Henil Patel of Gujarat Titans, who displayed exceptional fielding skills with 18 dismissals in just 9 innings.
In recognition of his all-around brilliance, Manpreet Singh Ghag was deservedly named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
As the dust settles on a thrilling season, Imperial Cricket Club’s maiden championship win will be remembered as a defining moment in the Hamilton and District Cricket League. Their victory is not only a reflection of their skill and teamwork but also a sign of more success to come in the future.
