Mohammad Rizwan Takes the Helm of Pakistan’s White-Ball Teams
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently announced Mohammad Rizwan as the new captain for Pakistan’s white-ball cricket teams after Babar Azam decided to step down. This decision, made public on October 27, 2024, is a big change for Pakistan as they prepare for important upcoming series in Australia and Zimbabwe. Rizwan, known for his strong leadership with the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League, where he led them to a championship in 2021, is expected to bring his experience to the national team.
Babar Azam led Pakistan’s white-ball teams for five years and helped them achieve many victories. However, he has decided to focus more on his batting to better support the team’s goals. Babar thanked everyone for the chance to captain Pakistan and will continue playing, adding strength and experience to Pakistan’s batting lineup.
This captaincy change is happening right before major tournaments like the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, which Pakistan will host. Rizwan will lead a team that includes top domestic players and experienced stars like Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. The team aims to mix young talent with seasoned players to create a strong lineup for the future.
