Pakistan Makes History with First ODI Series Victory in Australia in Two Decades

Pakistan made history by winning an ODI series in Australia for the first time since 2002, finishing with a strong eight-wicket victory in Perth. Despite starting the tour with setbacks—like head coach Gary Kirsten’s sudden resignation—Pakistan bounced back under interim coach Jason Gillespie, especially after a close defeat in the first game in Melbourne. They went on to win both the second ODI in Adelaide and the final match in Perth.

In the third ODI, Pakistan’s bowlers dominated, reducing Australia to just 140 runs in 31.5 overs. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah led the attack, each taking three wickets, while Haris Rauf’s speed added extra pressure. Australia’s batters struggled to handle the bounce and accuracy of Pakistan’s bowlers, especially with several of their key players absent.

Pakistan chased the target comfortably. Though Lance Morris dismissed openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique, captain Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam finished the job with ease, reaching the target in the 27th over. This series win was a big moment for Pakistan cricket and a memorable debut as captain for Rizwan, with the crowd of Pakistani fans cheering loudly in the stadium.
